Maintenance Technician

Department: Residential
Location: Iqaluit

Description: Maintenance team members play a key role in ensuring that Northview’s buildings show pride of ownership and respect for our residents, by making sure they are kept in good repair, and that maintenance issues are resolved in a timely and cost efficient manner. In our Iqaluit region, we are specifically seeking candidates with strong plumbing background. Plumbing credentials or certification will be preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring the safety of common areas, and complying with Northview’s Health and Safety requirements
  • With a  focus on customer service, troubleshoot and prioritize work orders and handle emergency situations
  • Perform routine and unique plumbing repairs, including boiler checks and hot water tank replacements
  • Perform water and sewer line repairs
  • Dealing with subcontract labour
  • Drywall repairs, painting prep and painting
  • Minor electrical repairs
  • Maintain company vehicle where applicable
  • Assisting with and or performing suite renovations and other upgrades
  • Moving furniture, equipment, materials and supplies, including clearing of vacant units
  • Maintain clean vacant lots, removal of garbage and debris from building and grounds
  • Maintain tools and equipment
  • Snow removal and ice control from all entrances/exits and walkways as required
  • Delivery of notices to building residents and posting of notices in common areas
  • Completion of suite inspections
  • Assisting with the development and implementation of preventive maintenance programs
  • Other related duties as assigned by the manager

Qualifications:

  • Able to work independently, is a self-starter and takes pride in a job well done
  • Three years' previous experience in building maintenance
  • Prior experience in facilities maintenance, plumbing or construction is preferred
  • Proven ability to work productively and safely while under pressure
  • Good customer service skills and pleasant demeanor
  • An ability to speak and write English fluently
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs
  • Able to provide a criminal record check free of relevant convictions
  • Hold a valid driver’s license with a clean drivers abstract
  • Flexible schedule, able to work on call and weekends as needed
